Welcome to Nature Culture Madagascar

It's time to start your adventure

All the road should lead to Madagascar

If all roads lead to Rome, as they say, we would have liked to assert that all roads should lead to Madagascar, the fourth largest island in the world, also known as the "Island of Contrasts" and the "Nature Island." That's why we have chosen the name Nature & Culture Madagascar (NCM)...

The richness of biodiversity is undeniable, and our country is one of the few in Africa with a written history. No one can say how long it would take to visit, admire, and explore Malagasy nature and learn about its culture.

From a tourism perspective, , Madagascar has everything except snow. Another name given to it is the "Little Continent.". Its relief, with a mountain range running from North to South, creates a variety of landscapes. Agriculture, handicrafts, customs, and traditions are other equally important assets, along with its parks and nature reserves.

So travel with Nature Culture Madagascar, and you will see and learn as much as possible, as we will take you off the beaten path. You will experience those rare moments in life that make you dream and yearn to come back and relive them.

Best Tour guide ever!
Jun 2022
Manitra is an amazing tour guide. He is very professional and knowledgeable. He has a lot of knowledge about the history, culture and nature of Madagascar and you won't have a boring moment in his company. The trip was a lot of fun and we felt absolutely safe and taken care of with Manitra and his team. On my way back, my phone wasn't working and he exchanged his phone with me last minute so I wouldn't have a problem. I feel very appreciative that I got to visit Madagascar with him as our tour guide. Looking forward to be back one day to this beautiful country!

Manitra Randriambololona: a terrific guide and fantastic driver
Jun 2022
Manitra Randriambololona was a terrific guide and a fantastic driver. I was lucky to have him as both.

As a guide: He was super knowledgeable. It was a big plus that he’s the board director and chair of the National Guide Federation. Because he teaches courses on tourism at the Institut National du Tourisme et de L’Hôtellerie, he seemed to know everybody and to have trained most of the guides we met along the way. So all the regional guides he arranged for me were first-rate. Manitra had a good sense of humor too and that’s always a plus.

Madagascar is a country with a lot of bounce (literally) and we covered a lot of ground during my road trip. But note: When you’re told the roads are bad, take what you imagine “bad” to be and multiply it by at least 2X. Sometimes you wonder if they’re really roads at all. Given that the word “road” was often euphemistic, Manitra’s driving was even more impressive and commendable, sometimes on the cusp of miraculous.

Outstanding holiday thanks to Manitra
Apr 2019 • Friends

I cannot recommend Manitra enough. I travelled quite extensively and never came across such a great service, friendly, dedicated and professional people. Manitra is extremely knowledgeable, speaks several languages fluently and knows Madagascar very well. We exchanged a huge number of emails before our trip as we wanted to have a customised tour, touching many different places and a full and diverse experience of the country. Manitra was very quick in replying, able to answer all my questions. He perfectly understood us, our needs and wishes and came up with the most amazing tour ever. He insisted on several points, including about spending few days in Ambatomilo and he was totally right. The memory of the human and naturalistic experiences we did will stay with us for ever. The trekking at Isalo, the days spent at Ambatomilo and the various visits and interactions with the local people in the villages we stopped by were the hits of trip. Madagascar is a stunning country, extremely diverse, rich in natural beauties. Although extremely poor, people are friendly and welcoming. Our guide Fabien was simply outstanding, he satisfied every requests we had, including by going well beyond what was written in the programme. He speaks perfect Italian, french and English. He told us so much about Madagascar, it’s nature, people, culture. He was really thoughtful. He even organised an Italian aperitivo at the Isalo to celebrate the sunset. We became friend and it was a pleasure seeing him and Manitra on our last day in Tana. They went beyond expectations and organised an amazing dinner for all of us. Our driver Lalena was super friendly, an excellent driver (including in driving on difficult roads ). He introduced us to the Malgasci music and to the latest hits which made the time on the car very enjoyable. Everything was perfect is every single way. Really an outstanding service, with the nicest and professional people.

Excellent guide
Jun 2023 • Luxury
What can I say about Manitra? He’s a great guy and even better guide. During the 13 days we spent together he acted as translator, cultural guide, photography partner, videographer, and porter. He made my experience comfortable and tailored everything to me. If I didn’t feel like going on a particular leg of the trip? No problem, we rearranged things. He provided nice commentary throughout our long drives, without being too distracting from my own private experience.

The thing I appreciated the most was his understanding of light when I was trying to get great shots of wildlife. Many animal spotters and local guides just want you to get as close as possible to the animals, not understanding that the angle and the direction of the sun are far more important for us. Manitra understands these things and it makes a HUGE difference in the field trying to walk away with great shots.

He arranged for unique cultural immersion stops, shopping stops- with no pressure- and good food choices. I opted for the luxury hotel options when possible and I was satisfied with everywhere we stayed, especially mantadia lodge and jardin du Roy. The jeep could have a more comfortable backseat- but it is Madagascar after all…

A+ experience and I’m so happy to have met Manitra and entrust my first experience with Madagascar to him. I’ll be back.

Reach out to him via the WhatsApp number listed on the site. TripAdvisor emails may go unanswered and don’t rely on the booking here.

Highly recommend.

Tour del Madagascar in 6 giorni da Tana’ a Tulear
Tour review: Private Tour for the Highlights of Madagascar

Esperienza fantastica! ❤️
Tour review: Madagascar in 7 days. Wildlife Expedition and Culture Immersion

Esperienza favolosa in Madagascar!

Manitra is the only tour guide for any trip in Madagascar!!!

Manitra is amazing. He has a solid understanding and knowledge of his country, local history, nature and wildlife. I had no idea of where to visit in Madagascar and Manitra designed a trip catered to my wishes, timescale and comfort level.

He is so mindful of what would make a guest happy and ensures the guest has the best experience. He tailored the trip to my specific requests, but also took the time to gauge my interests.

As a solo female traveller, (despite being well travelled and undertook numerous solo trips in South America, Asia and Europe) this was my first solo trip in Africa.

I felt completely safe and looked after. Manitra is so dedicated and passionate about his country and his craft. I cannot recommend him enough.

I usually do not take guides but understood quickly that you need a driver, car and guide to get around Madagascar safely. I spoke to a number of people and Manitra was the easiest and most patient in terms of organising, booking, and paying for the trip. His English is great, but he can also do tours in Italian, French, German, and I think the list goes on! I also organised my tour with 5 days notice and he accommodated.

Trip of a lifetime

Hard to convey exactly how phenomenal this experience was. We did a long trip to Madagascar (31 days) going East, West and South and had the best holiday of our lives.

Manitra arranged this trip at pretty late notice (about a month and half beforehand). We contacted him because of his position as President of the Guide Association, and due to the focus of Nature and Culture on sustainable tourism. Additionally, they work primarily with Malagasy guides and Malagasy owned businesses, which was an attraction for us.

Manitra was very responsive to our emails, and had a video call with us to learn about us and what interested us about visiting Madagascar. He was informative and helpful, guiding us well despite our naivety about visiting the country. We wanted to primarily see the wildlife, so Manitra created a tour for us that was tailored to focusing on visiting different national parks around the country, as well as having the full amount of time to experience these different diverse and wonderful places. He arranged our itinerary for the month of adventure, always looking for our feedback and thoughts, while offering his own experience about what would work for us.

We travelled East to see Akanin’ny Novy, Pangalanes, Analamazaotra and Mantandia, West to see Morondava, Tsingy de Bemaraha and South to see Ansirabe, Amositra, Ranomafana, Fianarantsoa, Isalo, and we ended our trip with a week on the beach in Anakao. We saw over 30 species of lemurs in the wild; dived and heard humpback whales singing; saw fossa, hundreds of interesting birds, chameleons, snakes, frogs, and wonderfully bizarre plants and trees. The people of Madagascar though are a real highlight and we felt welcomed and safe everywhere we went - at times having people open up their homes to us (once we were included in funeral celebrations). The Malagasy are incredibly resourceful and almost everything produced in the country is done by hand - the wood carving in Ambositra was particularly impressive. Even 31 days was not enough to do the country justice, there really is so much to see, and to even scratch the surface, you need to take a long holiday here. We are already talking about what we will do when we go back.

Our tour was led by one tour guide, Vivace, and one driver, Fano. Both made this a fantastic experience for us, and because they were so professional and serious about their work, we could both relax and learn how to live ‘mora-mora’.

The roads are abysmal in Madagascar, main ‘highways’ included. However, Fano made us feel like we were in safe hands in the car, and he is a very patient and attentive driver, always prepared for the unexpected, and always driving in a highly conscientious way. His English is much better than he is willing to admit, and he is a considerate and courteous man, who approaches life with a smile and an interest in you and in learning about the wider world. Both of us felt like we formed a strong bond with him on the trip and he did everything he could throughout to make sure it was an enjoyable and rewarding experience for us.

Vivace led the tour and he has a wealth of knowledge about everything in Madagascar: the fauna; the history of the country; the different tribes and their customs. His English is excellent and he is a good person and very professional in his role. He is funny too, and a pleasure to spend time with for three weeks. Vivace was thinking ahead throughout the trip to make sure that we were always enjoying the experience, and he was very responsive to our needs. We are both vegetarian, and he always informed hotels beforehand, as well as aiding in restaurants, so that we did not have to worry. He always ensured that we had the best local guides in national parks (Christian in Mantandia/Analamazaotra and Lala in Isalo were particularly good). Going above and beyond is a tired phrase, but it just feels so applicable here, he did everything possible to make sure that we enjoyed our time in Madagascar. You can tell he loves his work, and loves sharing his amazing country with tourists.

We would have no hesitation in recommending Nature and Culture to other tourists, we are actively encouraging our friends and family to visit Madagascar with them. We cannot begin to convey in a post on TripAdvisor what this summer has meant to us, we had such a fantastic trip.

Misaotra and Veloma to Manitra, Vivace and Fano.

Thank you again from Callum and Rachel.

My husband and I planned an 18 day trip to Madagascar in mid December 2023. We cannot speak highly enough about the team at Nature & Culture Madagascar for making our experience truly spectacular. This is a locally owned and operated tour company who are all experts on Tourism in Madagascar. We first began communicating with Manitra to help us plan the itinerary. Manitra asked us what we wanted to see and do and then he provided us with destinations that would work well for our time of year. After finalizing our itinerary, Manitra booked all our domestic flights, accommodations, national park visits, transportation, etc. We found it easiest to send our deposit money via Western Union from the US. He was waiting for us upon our arrival at the airport and welcomed us warmly after our long flights. Next we met our wonderful guide Colegue and driver Fano who were with us for the remainder of our trip except for a few days for us to enjoy beach time in Anakao. Both Colegue and Fano spoke excellent English and we enjoyed our time with them so much! Colegue explained in great detail the different cultures of Madagascar and spoke from personal experience as he grew up raising Zebu as a child. We enjoyed hearing all his stories and he was so kind as he translated all our different interactions with the locals. Colegue and Fano were happy to make stops along our car journeys to pull over to various villages and see the local everyday way of life. At the national parks, they organized more local guides and experts to explain the specifics of each place. All of these guides were also excellent, and we were impressed at their English speaking abilities. We were warned about the poor infrastructure in Madagascar and it is true, the drives are very long and the roads are bumpy. However, Fano is an excellent driver, the car was comfortable, and we enjoyed all our conversations in the car with both Fano and Colegue! Some of our trip highlights included Morondava (Baobabs and Kivalo village), the drives through Antsirabe and Fianarantsoa, Isalo, and Andasibe. Our hotel accommodations were also wonderful and you can work with Manitra to choose your levels of accommodation according to your budget. We were blown away from the hospitality of the team at Nature & Culture Madagascar, the kindness from the people of Madagascar, and the stunningly beautiful nature. We hope tourism can grow in a sustainable way so more travelers can experience this incredible country. Many thanks to Manitra, Colegue, and Fano and we hope to send some travelers to you!
