Itinerary

Day 1: ANTANANARIVO.
Meet and greet at the airport. Transfer to your hotel. Sightseeing and city tour in Antananarivo
Accommodation and Dinner: Hôtel Palissandre***

Day 2: ANTANANARIVO – ANTSIRABE (170Km, 4hours ).
Leave after Breakfast to Antsirabe. Stop in Ambatolampy which is known as a source of aluminium, and then a short visit of the manufacturing workshop. Arrival in Antsirabe or “the place of salt”, an elegant city well known as the centre of all industries in Madagascar. Tour of the “Town of Water” or “Town of Rickshaws” : so called because of its numerous thermal springs and the existence of two lakes and its thousands of rickshaws. Visit of a workshop where they make miniatures from recycles materials

Dinner and overnight. Accommodation: Hôtel Plumeria*** or similar

DAY 3: ANTSIRABE – MIANDRIVAZO (220Km, + / - 4hours ).
Visit the town and the market Visit local craft workshops. Drive to Miandrivazo crossing the sceneries of High Land, the rice green field contrast to the red Malagasy houses and the blue sky. Carry on to the west Wide sweeping grasslands
Dinner and overnight. Accommodation: Eden de Tsiribihina***

DAY 04 > DAY 06: DOWN THE TSIRIBIHINA.
Transfer to the pier. Sailing on the Tsiribihina River: Birdwatching Camp on the banks. Swimming in natural pools. Walking tours through the villages. Boat trip through the Bemaraha gorge 4x4 road trip to Bekopaka, the village at the foot of the Bemaraha Tsingy.
Three days/2 nights on camping Full Board

DAY 07: THE GREAT TSINGY (1 ½ HOUR CANOE TRIP + 15 KM OF TRACK + 2 HOURS WALK IN THE PARK). Today is all about the impressive Tsingy. It is a special formation of limestone. The park has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990.
Discover the great Tsingy in the National Park: Succession of sharp limestone peaks, carved out by wind and water -60m high Real maze of gorges ad faults Outstanding wildlife and plant life.
Hiking in the park requires good physical condition. Otherwise there is the possibility to visit the small Tsingy near the village - for some who are not so good at hiking.
Dinner and overnight. Accommodation: 2 nights at Olympe de Bemaraha or similar

DAY 08: THE GREAT TSINGY – MORONDAVA (200km, track 8 hours including river ferries).
Back to Morondava on the track: through great dry forests. Stops at the famous “Baobab Avenue” at sunset. You will cross the Tsiribihina River by ferry and then continue by car.
Dinner and overnight. Accommodation: PALISSANDRE COTE OUEST*** or similar.

DAY 9: MORONDAVA – ANTSIRABE ( 490 km, 8 HOURS DRIVE).
We drive back to Antsirabe.
Accommodation: Hôtel Plumeria*** or similar.

Day 10: ANTSIRABE – RANOMAFANA
Drive to Ranomafana. crossing the sceneries of High Land, the rice green field contrast to the red Malagasy houses and the blue sky.
Stop for at Ambositra. well known for its wood carvers and furniture manufacturing, originally introduced by the Zafimaniry people. The centre of Madagascar’s wood carving industry.
Upon arrival, we visit a Zafimaniry woodcarving workshop to learn about this local art that is listed on the UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural. Continuation to Ranomafana. Possibility to make an evening walk in the park.
Dinner and overnight. Accommodation: Hotel Centrest***

Day 11: RANOMAFANA - AMBALAVAO
Early visit of the national park of Ranomafana. The park contains twelve lemur species. Aside from the golden lemurs. eastern woolly lemur. Small-toothed sportive lemur. dwarf lemur and Rufous mouse lemur. the guides can usually coax out some well-habituated Malagasy striped civet. Other mammals include seven species of the insectivorous Tenrec and two species of mongoose. Birding into the national park of Ranomafana is very interesting with a list of some 118 species recorded here: the ultra-elusive slender-billed flufftail. one of the islands rarest birds. Other highlights include brown Mesite. velvet and sunbird Asitys. and the lovely Pitta-like ground-roller

In the afternoon, drive to Ambalavao

DAY 12: AMBALAVAO – ANDRINGITRA: (30KM OFF-ROAD + 7 HOURS WALK IN THE PARK).
After breakfast, embark on a day hike in Andringitra National Park. Transfer by Off-road for 2 hours drive, about 30 km from Ambalavao to the bridge and the river ANDRIANTELO (damaged by the cyclone Batsirai ) the departure point of the hike.

02 hours of walk until the place where we take the picnic lunch. Then, we walk about 1h 30mn and we arrive at the entrance of the park 1550m. But after you have arrived at a bifurcation on the waterfalls, you continue at a steep path leaving the forest that comes out onto the Andohariana plateau and climbs up further on a higher plateau behind granite mountain ;

Camping Full Board at Andriampotsy Camp

The Andringitra massif is an ideal place for mountain hikers. It consists of granite and gneiss and lies at an altitude between 720 m and 2658 m. Biologically, the mountains of Andringitra are no less interesting. Various species of ground orchids, birds, reptiles (chameleons, lizards, snakes) can be observed both in the forest and in the open part of the mountains. There you can, with a bit of luck, see lemurs again and enjoy beautiful landscapes.

DAY 13 TREKKING PIC BOBY: (TOTAL 4 HOURS WALK IN THE PARK).
On the second day you climb to the Pic Boby very early in the morning (to reach Pic Boby at sunrise, you’ll need to leave the plateau camp by 3 am) to try to arrive before the clouds of the day. The ascent up to 2658m takes about two or three hours, depending of your pace. The peak, which is the highest accessible peak of the country, is easy to climb.
Beautiful sightseeing, rare plants and birds. Overnight camping.

DAY 14: ANDRINGITRA – AMBOSITRA: After the breakfast, we leave the camp. We cross a small plateau followed by a small rise towards the first point of view at 1500 m of altitude.
Then, we go down again by admiring the magnificent and beautiful view of the the TSARANORO Valley. Descent towards the western slope towards Tsaranoro large cliff and Manamisoa Village. And we continue by crossing a river followed by a small rise before arriving at the village MORARANO where we take the car.
Driving on to Ambalavao which is the centre of the Madagascan wine industry – the climate is said to be ideal for grape vines but it is a tradition left by the priests and monks who lived in the area of Fianarantsoa. Stop and visit the Anja Reserve where we hope to see Ring-tailed Lemurs in their natural surroundings. Ambalavao We also visit the silk and the paper factories here.

Continuation to Ambositra.

DAY 15: AMBOSITRA – ANTANANARIVO
Brakfast at the hotel. We visit a Zafimaniry woodcarving workshop to learn about this local art that is listed on the UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural. Then we drive back to Antananarivo. Stop in Ambatolampy which is known as a source of aluminium, and then a short visit of the manufacturing workshop. Arrival in Antananarivo.

Dinner and overnight. Accommodation: Hotel Palissandre***

DAY 16: ANTANANARIVO – FLIGHT BACK HOME
Breakfast in your hotel. Transfer to the airport of Ivato-Antananarivo for the international flight.
