‎Founded in 1999 by a group of local tour guides, the Mitsinjo Association has grown into a key player in biodiversity conservation in Andasibe. Now composed of over 50 members, the organization is rooted in community involvement and dedicated to environmental protection, sustainable development, and education. The word Mitsinjo, meaning “to foresee” or “to anticipate” in Malagasy, reflects the association’s vision: looking ahead to better preserve what we have today.

‎One of Mitsinjo’s main missions is environmental education. Every year, hundreds of local students take part in interactive workshops, forest outings, and classroom activities. These initiatives help young people in Andasibe build a deeper understanding of their environment and foster a lasting appreciation for nature, encouraging more responsible behavior from a young age.

‎At the same time, the association leads scientific research projects in collaboration with both Malagasy and international experts. Studies are conducted on the region’s unique flora and fauna, including endangered species such as the Prolemur simus. Mitsinjo is also involved in ecological monitoring activities like radiotracking and forest soil surveys, often supported by international volunteers, contributing valuable knowledge to help protect the area’s exceptional biodiversity.

‎Beyond education and research, Mitsinjo is involved in a wide range of sustainable initiatives: reforestation, natural resource management, ecological farming, community health, captive frog breeding, and biodiversity observation. All of these actions are designed with a long-term vision, combining scientific knowledge with local participation and cultural respect.

‎Mitsinjo is more than just an environmental organization, it is a powerful example of grassroots commitment to conservation. By combining local knowledge with education, science, and sustainable tourism, the association is helping to inspire a new generation to care for their natural heritage and act for the future.

‎As strong believers in supporting local initiatives, we at Nature & Culture Madagascar are proud to collaborate with Mitsinjo. Their mission aligns perfectly with our values of sustainable tourism and community-based conservation. As a responsible tour operator, we actively incorporate Mitsinjo’s work into our tours and travel products, through educational visits, tree planting activities, cultural exchanges, and more. By working together, we aim to offer our travelers meaningful and impactful experiences, while contributing to environmental protection and local development.
